Richmond resident, Grace Buckle has been presented with an Award by the, President of the Liberal Democrats Baroness Ros Scott in recognition of sixty years outstanding service to the Party. Mrs Buckle was given the award at the Liberal Democrats Spring Conference in Harrogate last weekend.
Grace Buckle joined the Liberal Party in London in 1946; she served as a Councillor in Stratford upon Avon for four years. She and her late husband Geoff moved to live in Bainbridge they later moved to Richmond.
Grace again worked hard together with Angela & John Harris to build up the Liberal Party in the area. Grace was elected to Richmond Town Council was Mayor of the town 1987/8 and served as a Town Councillor for twenty-six years. She also served as a Councillor on Richmondshire District Council for over twenty years and was appointed an Honorary Alderman on her retirement from the Council in 2003.
Grace Buckle now aged ninety-two still works hard supporting the Liberal Democrats and continuing her life long campaign for Electoral Reform. She said at the presentation:
"I am delighted to receive this Award. All my life I have been a student of history and in the Liberal Party I have found scope for my ambition to bring peace among nations".
Liberal Democrat Yorkshire and the Humber MEP Diana Wallis was at the presentation and said that she was delighted that the long service given by Grace Buckle to the Liberal Democrats and the town of Richmond had been recognised in this way.
